Play with numbers
in Valgetal and Matego
Joustra Software
releases two new math games
Valgetal and Matego are two educational programs designed
to improve your math skills while playing a challenging
game and having fun.
In Valgetal you have to complete a series of basic math
equations by maneuvring falling numbers into a container.
If you create a vertical column of three blocks, the
number on top must be the sum of the two below it; if it
isn't, you are penalized by a reduction in the size of
the container, which immediately makes it harder to
control successive blocks precisely.
The in-game interface of Valgetal is quite similar to a
famous Russian game - falling blocks are controlled with
the cursor keys, and it comes with twenty progressively
difficult levels. Addition isn't the only skill that's
tested - subtraction, multiplication and division
equations are also available. Its name means "falling
numbers" in Dutch.
Like in chess or checkers, in Matego you also fight
against a hostile army. But this time your soldiers are
numbers and your weapons all four basic math operations.
The goal of Matego is to destroy as fast as possible the
numbers of your opponent. If you play against
the computer, the higher the level and the more numbers
you eliminate, the more points you will receive. If
you play with another player, you win if your opponent
has no more numbers left.
You play Matego by moving the cursor in your army to the
line where you want to attack. After that you make the
number in the cursor equal to the sum of the two numbers
"at the other side" and you fire. The pressure
is on, because in the meantime your opponent is attacking
you, and if you make a mistake two of your own numbers
will disappear. Besides adding, experienced players can
also subtract, multiply or divide the numbers of their
opponent.
Both Valgetal and Matego have a High Scores list in order
to stimulate the motivation. The programs are suitable
for all ages and skill levels, from elementary school
through adult. Anyone with a 486 or better PC running any
Windows operating system can use these games to sharpen
and tune their math skills.

Speel met getallen in Valgetal en Matego
Joustra Software publiceert twee nieuwe rekenspellen
Valgetal en Matego zijn twee
educatieve programma's waarin je op een leuke manier je
rekenvaardigheid verbetert terwijl je een uitdagend spel
speelt.
In Valgetal moet je razendsnel rekenen met vallende
getallen in een rechthoek. De bedoeling is dat je drie
getallen op elkaar plaatst, waarbij het bovenste getal
dan een som moet zijn van de twee getallen er onder. Je
moet hierbij geen fouten maken want dan word je gestraft
met een verkleining van de rechthoek, waardoor het meteen
moeilijker wordt de volgende blokjes te plaatsen.
Het uiterlijk van het spel heeft veel weg van een bekend
Russisch spel -
vallende blokjes die je controleert met de cursortoetsen
en het beschikt over twintig verschillende
moeilijkheidsniveaus. Behalve optellen, kun je ook
aftrekken, vermenigvuldigen of delen.
Net zoals in schaken of dammen, strijd je in Matego ook
tegen een vijandelijk leger. Maar je soldaten zijn nu
getallen en je wapens alle vier de rekenkundige
bewerkingen. Het doel van Matego is om zo snel als
mogelijk
het getallenleger van je tegenstander te verslaan. Speel
je tegen de computer, hoe hoger het niveau en hoe meer
getallen je vernietigt hoe meer punten je haalt. Speel je
met een andere speler, dan win je als je tegenstander
geen getallen meer over heeft.
Je speelt Matego door de cursor naar de lijn te bewegen
waar je wilt aanvallen. Daarna maak je het getal in de
cursor gelijk aan de som van de twee getallen "aan
de overkant" en vuur je. De spanning is hierbij hoog,
want je tegenstander is ondertussen bezig jou aan te
vallen en maak je een rekenfout dan verdwijnen er twee
getallen van je eigen leger.
Zowel Valgetal als Matego hebben een "High Scores"-lijst
om je motivatie te stimuleren. De programma's zijn
geschikt voor alle leeftijden. Iedereen met een 486 PC of
beter en met elke versie van Windows kan deze spellen
gebruiken om het hoofdrekenen te oefenen en te verbeteren.

Juega con números en Valgetal y Matego
Joustra Software publica dos nuevos juegos de
matemáticas
Valgetal y Matego son dos programas
educativos diseñados para mejorar tus matemáticas
mientras juegas.
En Valgetal tienes que controlar números que van cayendo,
utilizando operaciones matemáticas básicas. Has de
crear una columna vertical de tres números, el número
de arriba debe ser la suma de los dos de abajo; si no lo
es, se te penalizará disminuyendo el tamaño del cuadro
de juego, lo que hará más difícil el control de los
siguientes bloques.
El aspecto del juego Valgetal es bastante parecido a un
famoso juego ruso - controlas bloques que caen con las
flechas, a lo largo de veinte niveles progresivos de
dificultad. No solamente se practica la suma sino
también la resta, la multiplicación y la división.
Valgetal significa "números que caen" en
holandés.
Como en el ajedrez o en las damas, en Matego también
luchas contra un ejército hostil. Pero aquí tus
soldados son números y tus armas las cuatro operaciones
matemáticas básicas. El objetivo de Matego es destruir
los números de tu oponente tan rápido como puedas. Si
juegas contra el ordenador, recibirás más puntos
cuantos más números elimines y mayor sea el nivel. Si
juegas contra otro jugador, ganarás cuando a tu oponente
no le queden más números.
Juegas a Matego moviendo el cursor de tu ejército a la
línea donde quieres atacar. Después de que has hecho el
número en el cursor igual a la suma de los dos números
"del otro lado", disparas. Pero has de tener
cuidado porque mientras tanto tu oponente te está
atacando a ti y si cometes un fallo dos de tus propios
números desaparecerán. Además de sumar, los jugadores
experimentados pueden también restar, multiplicar o
dividir los números de su oponente.
Valgetal y Matego tienen ambos una lista de los mejores
jugadores para estimular la motivación. Estos programas
son apropiados para todas las edades y niveles, desde la
escuela Primaria hasta para adultos. Todo el mundo a
partir de un PC 486 en adelante con cualquier sistema
operativo Windows puede utilizarlos para agudizar sus
destrezas matemáticas.

Nace Eurobloks,
un juego interactivo para practicar el cambio
entre euros y pesetas
La empresa Joustra Software ha
creado Eurobloks, un programa de
ordenador educativo diseñado para familiarizarse
con el cambio de pesetas a euros mientras te
diviertes. El juego, que es apropiado para

significa en neerlandés, caída y "getal",
número y, como su nombre indica, en Valgetal uno
juega con números que caen y con los que hay que
hacer cálculos rápidamente. Para jugar a
Valgetal deben moverse los números que caen con
las flechas o el ratón, y hacer cálculos
poniendo 3 números formando una columna. El
tercer número que se ponga en la columna
tiene que ser el resultado de la operación
realizada con los otros dos primeros. Las
operaciones
que se pueden hacer son: sumar, restar,
multiplicar y dividir. Existen 20 niveles de
dificultad con
los que poner a prueba nuestra agilidad mental.
Valgetal es un entretenido juego educativo,
creado
en Zaragoza, recomendado para todas las edades,
pero especialmente para los escolares.

school"). Down under we have copied a
small part of it.
In juni 2002 stond een mooi
artikel over onze programma's in het belangrijke
educatieve tijdschrift COS ("computers
op school"). Hieronder staat een klein
gedeelte weergeven.
En junio 2002 un bonito artículo,
tratando nuestros programas, fue publicado en la
revista educativaholandesa COS ("computadoras
en la escuela"). Abajo una pequeña

Valgetal is
een spel waarbij je snel moet rekenen met
vallende getallen. Het succes van het
aloude Tetris maakt Valgetal tot een
vergelijkbaar verslavend spel. De

Matego is een heel ander
spel. Matego wordt, net als bij schaken
of dammen, gespeeld door twee spelers.
Als je tegen de computer speelt dan is je
doel zo veel als mogelijk 'vijandelijke'
getallen te vernietigen ..........

De eerste keer zul je de uitleg
goed moeten lezen. Deze is duidelijk
opgesteld en visueel ondersteund. Heb je
het spel eenmaal door, dan biedt het een
leuk uitdaging voor de leerlingen, ook in
de hoogste groepen van de bovenbouw.
Sterk aan het spel is dat leerlingen zelf
hun sterke rekenkanten kunnen gebruiken
om een aanval in te zetten. Daar staat
weer tegenover dat ze hun zwakke kanten
niet snel zullen oefenen.

Voor alle
drie geldt...
Eenvoud
siert en dat geldt ook voor deze drie
programma's. De opzet is niet
spectaculair, maar dat maakt het op een
bepaalde manier juist erg aantrekkelijk.
De spelregels zijn duidelijk opgesteld en
heb je altijd 'bij de hand'. Het
wedstrijd-element vergroot het
speelplezier voor de leerlingen. Wie wil
niet zijn naam bij de highscores kunnen
zetten! D.....
De programma's Valgetal
en Matego zijn prima te gebruiken voor
het oefenen van het hoofdrekenen, maar
zijn vooral erg leuk om te spelen.
